Welcome Home Packages
Welcome Home Package One – Go Dog Go and Doggy Debut Sessions: $100 for two separate sessions; $90 for rescue or shelter dogs (copy of adoption contract or other verification required)
Welcome Home Package Two – Doggy Debut Session Only: $50 for a single session; $45 for rescue or shelter dogs (copy of adoption contract or other verification required). This package includes only those services accomplished in the second “Doggy Debut” session as described below.
For the Welcome Home Package One: In our first Go Dog Go session, we discuss what you need to welcome your new dog home, evaluate your home for safety concerns and puppy proofing, and talk about how to help your new dog bond and adjust successfully to his new home. We’ll also cover basic education regarding behavior, crating, training, health, spay/neuter, nutrition, toilet training, socialization and choosing a vet, groomer and/or boarding kennel. Most clients, even lifelong dog owners, are surprised at how much they learn.
In the second “Doggy Debut” session, Canid will help you pick up your new friend and bring him to your home. We’ll assist with introductions to other family dogs and pets to ensure we get off to a happy, friendly start. We’ll coach you on some basic training tips and talk about your new friend’s temperament, personality and body language as we watch him explore, as well as aid in the exploration process. At Canid, these are some of our favorite sessions, filled with fun, excitement and education. We are always honored to be a part of this special time and nothing brings us more joy than seeing the human-dog relationship blossom. It is one of our most gratifying endeavors to help this incredible relationship get off to a successful start.
If you have other dogs or pets in residence, the second Doggy Debut session for introducing dogs can be a critical component that decides whether or not they will accept one another and get along, possibly setting the tone for a lifetime. The Canid dog introductory techniques are based on dog psychology and ethology, and are highly structured to ensure we address all issues to ‘start off on the right paw’. This single session can mean the difference between dogs enjoying a harmonious meeting vs. being unable to live together and share space. Many people think this only applies only to adult dogs, however it’s just as critical, if not more so, when a new puppy enters the home.
All sessions under the Welcome Home Package are about an hour to an hour and a half in duration. For the Doggy Debut session, we will be spending time outdoors, regardless of weather, and may require an additional handler, especially in cases where we are working with multiple dogs/pets, and session length may increase (though your fee does not!). When we discuss this further during our initial phone consult (for which there is no fee), you will be encouraged to invite friends or family who will be part of Dog’s life to participate in welcoming Dog, however, if an additional handler is required, Canid will provide our own assistant at no additional cost. Additionally, please wait to invite Dog’s new friends to participate until we have discussed this further. There are some minor things we need to consider to ensure Dog’s best interests are protected and things go smoothly. For example, if your friend and family network includes twenty people … Dog may be a little overwhelmed. We would also ask that only those dogs that will be part of your new dog’s immediate family be present. You can use the introductory techniques you learn during Doggy Debut later on to introduce Dog to other canines that will be part of his extended family and friend network. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in these matters.
To get started, you’ll be asked to complete a brief questionnaire and return it along with a $25 non-refundable deposit, which will be deducted from your total fee due at the time of the first lesson. On the day of the first session, you’ll also be asked to sign a services contract/release of liability and show proof of vaccination for any dogs already in residence.
